Following the report on Channel 14: Amid criticism regarding the tying of our fighters’ hands on the battlefield in Lebanon, a security consultation was held a last night (Monday) with the participation of the Prime Minister, the Minister of Defense, the IDF Chief of Staff, and the Commander of the Northern Command.
2+The statement from the political and security echelon indicated that the IDF will continue to operate to thwart threats directed at IDF soldiers and Israeli citizens. Special emphasis was placed on the continued destruction of terrorist infrastructure and maintaining the security zone in southern Lebanon.
The announcement comes after a senior political official stated earlier yesterday in a conversation with C14 that the political echelon is working to change the situation. In his remarks, he stated that the political establishment will coordinate directly with the military command to ensure that the Cabinet’s directives are sharpened and understood down to the last fighter in the field.
2+According to the clarification, the rules of engagement will be redefined in a clear and binding manner. Fighters will receive authorization to strike any terrorist identified within the area designated as the “yellow zone.”
Additionally, the political official clarified that the new directives allow fighters to respond even beyond the borders of this area in any case where a clear threat to our forces is identified.
2+As a reminder, the IDF published last week the map of the security zone in southern Lebanon where our forces are operating as part of operational activity. According to the IDF, forces are deployed in the security zone, which extends up to approximately 10 kilometers inside Lebanese territory.
