As part of an emerging understanding, Iran will gain access to roughly $15 billion in frozen assets held in Qatar and the UAE in exchange for empty promises, being called commitments on its nuclear program.

As part of an understanding taking shape in recent days, Iran is set to gain access to a total of up to $15 billion from its frozen funds as soon as this week. The move will be carried out in stages, with the first phase of financial relief expected to begin immediately.

The breakdown of funds expected to be released includes access to roughly $3 billion held in the United Arab Emirates, plus an additional $10 billion to $12 billion frozen in Qatar. The release comes against the backdrop of emerging understandings with Iran. The decision to allow access to the funds was made following commitments Iran provided regarding its nuclear program as part of those understandings. The process of transferring the funds and implementing economic relief is expected to begin within the coming days.
