Libby Alon, Channel 14’s Washington correspondent, moved her followers on social media Tuesday when she shared a deeply personal decision she’d made. Alon, known to Israeli audiences for her reporting from the American capital, revealed she’s taking another significant step in her growing religious observance.
In a video she posted, Alon explained that since moving to the United States, she’s experienced a process of spiritual growth and connection to Judaism. She noted that in the past she even kept Shabbat and enjoyed it very much, and now, after moving apartments, she decided on an unprecedented step for her: “I decided to do something I’ve never done before.”
According to Alon, she asked a Chabad emissary to come to her home today and kasher her kitchen to full kosher standards. Alon expressed great excitement about the move, and promised to update her followers on the rest of the process and her experiences from this significant change in her life.
Alon shared documentation of the kashering process showing the Chabad emissary pouring hot water on the countertop—part of kashering a Jewish kitchen—and laughed: “Now you’re also washing my whole kitchen?” Immediately after, the emissary affixed a mezuzah on Alon’s doorpost. “Now it’s official—a kosher Jewish home!” Alon wrote excitedly.
