After Trump called off planned strikes on Iran, the Revolutionary Guard-linked Tasnim news agency ridiculed him for repeatedly claiming a deal is near—38 times in recent months, they say.

After President Trump announced he was canceling planned strikes on Iran, the Tasnim news agency, which is linked to Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, mocked him: “He’s already announced a deal 38 times.” The agency added: “In just three days, he ‘sent his deputy to Pakistan in his imagination’ four times.” According to Tasnim, there will be no deal until Iran itself announces one.

Tasnim claimed the strike cancellation represents “another Trump retreat, again citing progress in negotiations. Trump has declared 38 times over the past two months that a deal is within reach and close to being signed. In just three days, he sent his deputy to Pakistan in his imagination four times.” According to the agency, “As long as Iran does not itself announce the existence of a possible understanding or agreement, Trump’s statements should be treated as part of his previous string of messages.”

President Trump announced Thursday evening that he decided to cancel the strikes and bombings planned for tonight against Iran, following significant progress in diplomatic contacts with the Islamic Republic.

In a statement, Trump wrote: “Based on the fact that discussions with the Islamic Republic of Iran have been brought to the highest level of Iranian leadership and approved, I have, as President of the United States of America, cancelled the scheduled strikes and bombings against Iran this evening.”

According to him, the parties involved have reached comprehensive understandings, both at the principled level and in the practical details of the emerging agreement. “Discussions and final points have been, in both concept and great detail, approved by all parties involved,” he wrote. Minutes later, Trump told the New York Post: “It’s pretty much all wrapped up.”
