The Pentagon activated emergency protocols today (Thursday) after reports of an unusual odor coming from the air conditioning system, evacuating multiple floors and corridors.
Employees in the affected area were ordered to shelter in place as hazmat teams and firefighters rushed to the scene to investigate the source of the smell.
Hazmat crews are still working to determine what caused the odor and whether it poses any danger to personnel in the building.
CNN later reported that the evacuation was a false alarm.
