Legislation to weaken the status of a ‘Palestinian’ state in the United Nations is being introduced in the United States House of Representatives. Congressman Jim Baird (R-IN-4) announced on X yesterday (Tuesday) that he is submitting the No Official ‘Palestine’ Entry (NOPE) Act to the House Foreign Affairs Committee. It is currently unknown when voting on the bill will take place, after which it will need to be approved by the Senate and signed into law by the U.S. President.
Previously introduced in 2024 and again in 2025 in a coordinated effort with Senator James Risch, the bill aims to defund any United Nations entities that support elevating the ‘Palestinian’ Liberation Organization above observer status. Current U.S. law prohibits funds from going to bodies that grant membership status to the terror-supporting entity, but this bill goes further and withholds funds from UN bodies that support elevating it to any status above observer.
Congressman Baird stated, “The PLO has continued over several decades in acts of terrorism and human rights atrocities. While U.S. laws prohibit funding U.N. organizations that give the PLO full membership, the United States will stand with the sole democracy in the Middle East, Israel, against the PLO’s attempts to weaponize international organizations.”
Baird continued, “October 7, 2023, Hamas committed the most heinous terror attacks since 9/11. Mass rapes, mass killings, 1,200 Israelis killed by the hateful terrorist organization. February 2026, the ‘Secretary General’ of the PLO stated that Hamas isn’t a terrorist organization, even going as far as rejecting calls for Hamas to disarm. At a certain point, you ought to call it what it is. This committee needs to acknowledge that, regardless of the signed ceasefires and peace frameworks, there has been little progress in their de-ratification.”
The PLO is currently represented by the ‘Palestinian’ Authority. The PA is best-known for its “Pay-for-Slay” program, through which it spends hundreds of millions of dollars on rewarding terrorists who murders and maim Israelis and their families. Mahmoud Abbas, the terrorist head of the PLO, has vowed, “By Allah, if one penny is left in our hands it will only be spent on the Martyrs, prisoners, and wounded.”
