The U.S. Justice Department announced Monday that Mohammad Sagha, 22, of Passaic County, New Jersey, has been charged with providing material support to a foreign terrorist organization. Sagha allegedly planned to carry out an ISIS attack against a synagogue in the United States.
According to the indictment, Sagha, who lives in Wayne, held online conversations between December 2025 and June 2026 with an undercover source he believed was part of the terrorist organization. In these conversations, the two discussed “potential attacks against targets in the United States, including places of worship.” He also shared photos and videos of the alleged target sites.
The indictment further alleges that Sagha told the undercover source he was “considering carrying out his own attack, possibly targeting a National Guard site or a Jewish synagogue” near his home. In March 2026, he attempted to travel to ISIS-controlled territory in Syria to support the terrorist organization, and purchased a virtual private network (VPN) for the undercover source.
Robert Frazer, U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey, stated that “those who seek to advance the goals of foreign terrorist organizations should expect a swift and coordinated response from federal law enforcement authorities.” Sagha faces up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
