United States President Donald Trump published a brief message today (Monday) on Truth Social, in which he claimed that behind the scenes both sides are looking for a way to stop the fighting. This tweet joins another statement by the president that both Israel and Iran should stop firing.
The U.S. president’s statement comes as the two countries are locked in direct military exchanges. Despite the military rhetoric and the IDF’s preparations for at least several more days of combat, Trump wrote bluntly: “Both sides, Israel and Iran, are seeking an immediate ceasefire!”
In his statement, the president wrote that “Both sides, Israel and Iran, are requesting an immediate ceasefire! Final negotiations for “peace” are underway, subject to ignorance or stupidity that may stand in the way. The blockade will remain in effect, and in full force, until a “final deal” is reached. Things need to move quickly. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President Donald J. Trump.”
The message follows earlier reports that Trump asked Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to show restraint and not respond to Iran’s missile attack—a request Israel rejected when it launched two waves of strikes deep inside Iran early this morning.
Trump’s post comes after a tense night in which 22 missiles were fired at Israel from Iran and two more from Yemen, causing physical damage to buildings in Samaria. In response, the Israeli Air Force destroyed nine air defense systems in western and central Iran and struck three buildings at the Mahshahr petrochemical complex used by the regime’s missile program.
At the same time, the IDF claims that on the international level, full coordination with the United States and the American Central Command is closer than was announced: the Chief of Staff has spoken with the CENTCOM commander three times since yesterday, and American military officials were not surprised by the activity carried out on the ground, with the United States assisting exclusively in the defensive effort, but the attacks themselves are solely Israeli.
