Following an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) security assessment, the Home Front Command is expected to ease defense guidelines in the north tonight (Tuesday). According to emerging details, frontline communities will be allowed to return to in-person learning at educational institutions, provided the activity takes place in a building or location from which a standard protected space can be reached within the required response time.
1+The Upper Galilee region is expected to move to a “green” level, allowing full activity with no restrictions. Some regional councils in the area are already preparing in coordination with education teams, but are waiting for the official publication of the guidelines by the Home Front Command.
The easing comes after defense policy in the north was tightened over the weekend following a security assessment. Under that decision, the frontline area and a row of communities—including Or HaGanuz, Meron, Bar Yochai, Safsufa, Yesod HaMa’ala, Kisra-Sumei, Beit Jan, and Sdeh Eliezer—moved to a “limited activity” level.
1+Under the stricter guidelines, no educational activity took place in those communities, and workplaces were only allowed to operate near protected spaces. Gatherings were also limited to up to 50 participants in open areas and up to 200 in closed buildings, and beaches in the area were closed to the public.
