The official Kuwaiti News Agency announced this morning (Monday) that the country is under a hostile air attack by missiles and drones, which forced local defense systems to operate at peak intensity. The unusual event occurs immediately after the United States military announced that it carried out direct strikes on the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran on Saturday and Sunday, in response to the downing of an American aircraft in international maritime space.
The air attack against Kuwait activated alarm systems throughout the country, with citizens reporting the sounds of explosions that were clearly heard in various cities. Local security forces entered a state of high alert in order to neutralize the threats in the sky and prevent damage to critical infrastructure.
The General Staff of the Kuwaiti Army issued a special message of reassurance to citizens following the activation of the firing systems and interceptor aircraft: “Kuwaiti anti-aircraft defenses are currently dealing with missile attacks and hostile unmanned aircraft. The sounds of explosions, if heard, are the result of anti-aircraft defense systems intercepting the hostile attacks. Please everyone adhere to the security and safety instructions issued by the authorized authorities.”
In parallel with the drama in Kuwait, the US Central Command revealed the details of the complex military operation it conducted over the past weekend against military targets inside Iran. According to the military statement, US warplanes attacked strategic targets in Goruk and Qeshm Island in Iran, which are centers of power for the Revolutionary Guards.
The US Central Command detailed the operational reasons that led to the decision to attack inside Iranian territory and the results of the operation on the ground: “The measured and planned attacks took place on Saturday and Sunday in response to aggressive Iranian actions, which included the downing of a US MQ-1 drone operating over international waters.
“US warplanes responded quickly and destroyed Iranian air defense systems, a ground control station, and two suicide drones that posed clear threats to ships that passed through the regional waters. No American soldiers were harmed during the operation.”
The US military concluded its official statement with a clear warning to the leadership in Tehran, making it clear that the US administration will not tolerate harm to its forces despite the current ceasefire agreement in the region: “CENTCOM will continue to protect US assets and interests in response to unwarranted Iranian aggression during the implemented ceasefire.”
This is not the first time that direct exchanges have taken place between the US and Iran. Last week, the Iranian Tasnim News Agency reported that the Revolutionary Guards launched a retaliatory strike against a US air base in the early hours of the morning. The Iranian military move was carried out immediately after US military forces carried out an airstrike in the Bandar Abbas airport area. This move to a direct and serious exchange of blows between the US and Iran escalates the war, creating the potential for a broad flare-up that could develop into an open war between the countries.
