Media outlets affiliated with the Iranian regime are reporting tonight (Thursday) the sound of explosions in the city of Bandar Kangan in southern Iran, along with an exchange of fire between Iran and the United States in the Strait of Hormuz area. According to reports, the Revolutionary Guards attacked four ships, including American vessels, after they allegedly tried to pass through the strait “without Iranian permission.”
According to the Sabrin News Agency, missiles were fired from the Bushehr area toward the Strait of Hormuz. At the same time, another Arab source close to the Iranian axis claimed that Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis cruise missiles were launched toward an American ship in the area.
The official Iranian media reported an exchange of fire between Iranian forces and the United States, but at this stage there is no official confirmation from Washington or Tehran of the events. The source of the explosions in Bandar Kangan is also still unclear.
The incident comes just hours after the dramatic report on the website “Axios”, according to which the US and Iran have reached an agreement in principle to extend the ceasefire for another 60 days, during which talks will be held for a broad agreement on the Iranian nuclear program and an end to the regional conflict. According to the publication, Iran is to reopen the Strait of Hormuz to free movement and remove naval mines, while the US will consider gradual easing of sanctions and restrictions on Iranian ports.
