The European Union has sanctioned Israeli NGO Regavim after the organization filed a court petition to dismantle an illegal structure built near the Herodium in Judea and Samaria. The structure was EU-funded, built in Area C without permits, in direct violation of the Oslo Accords.
The EU describes the structure as a school and has accused Regavim, whose mission is to protect Israeli land, of “facilitating and encouraging human rights abuses.” Regavim says a professional engineering assessment found the structure to be a safety hazard to both children and staff.
Regavim responded to the sanctions with a pointed statement: “The EU builds illegally, Israel enforces the law, and Regavim gets sanctioned for exposing it.”
