US President Donald Trump published another post tonight (Monday-Tuesday) in which he addressed the future of Iran’s enriched uranium stockpiles as part of the understandings being formed around the Iranian nuclear program. Trump wrote that “the Enriched Uranium (Nuclear Dust!) will either be immediately turned over to the United States to be brought home and destroyed,” and added that his preferred option is destruction on site, in coordination with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
According to Trump, one of the options being considered is to carry out the destruction at another agreed-upon site, with an international supervisory body such as the Atomic Energy Commission, or an equivalent body, serving throughout the entire process. The president emphasized the importance of the move and thanked the public for their “attention to the matter,” but did not specify whether these are formal understandings that have already been reached or a proposal that is still in the negotiation stages.
These words are being spoken at a particularly sensitive time surrounding the Iranian nuclear issue, when the US is in advanced stages of negotiations with Iran regarding an end to the war and an arrangement that will enforce the Iranian nuclear project.
