Israel is coordinating with the United States on its next steps against Iran, as rising tensions in the Strait of Hormuz and the collapse of the ceasefire are leading to tight planning between Washington and Jerusalem. On Wednesday, an Israeli source revealed to CNN that the coordination includes preparations for a new round of strikes, which will focus on energy infrastructure and the targeted elimination of senior Iranian officials.
Most of these plans were ready for execution on the eve of the ceasefire in April, and are now returning to the operational desk following the Iranian missile launch into the Gulf last Monday.
According to the CNN report, the goal of the planned strikes is not necessarily an all-out war, but rather the application of focused military force that will serve political interests. An Israeli source explained the strategy behind the move: “The intention is to carry out a short campaign aimed at pressuring Iran to make additional concessions in the negotiations.”
However, the source emphasized that the final decision on the resumption of hostilities lies with US President Donald Trump. The US president has recently expressed growing frustration with the deadlock in negotiations and the ongoing blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, but at the same time he continues to signal that he is not interested in being drawn into a large-scale military conflict with Iran.
