What began as a routine activity by the Border Police motorcycle unit in Baqa al-Gharbiyye turned into a chase yesterday (Monday) after officers spotted a motorcyclist whose license plate was folded and hidden.
The driver ignored police calls to stop and began speeding through the city, committing traffic violations and endangering pedestrians and other drivers. During the escape, the motorcyclist crashed into a car in the area. The force of the collision threw him from the motorcycle. He abandoned it and began fleeing on foot from the scene.
Officers who chased after him managed to catch up and arrest him shortly afterward. A check of the suspect’s details—a 21-year-old Arab resident of the town—revealed he was driving with a suspended license.
The suspect was taken for questioning and later released to receive medical treatment at the hospital for a minor injury he sustained during the accident. Police said they will continue legal proceedings against him for driving with a suspended license, disobeying police officers, and reckless driving.
